While having some ‘me’ time last weekend, I was channel surfing and a particular channel playing Hindi songs from the 70s caught my fancy. The lyrics, melodious tune, sweet singing, well choreographed and enacted songs were indeed a treat.
I watched a few songs. As the camera lens zoomed in on the heroine’s face, I noticed their winged eyeliners. Aren’t we seeing this winged eye makeup as the trend these days?! I also observed heroine’s earrings, long, three-tiered jhumkas, which have become the current favorite.
In between the songs, jewelry commercials were being played; these were about what is termed as Temple jewelry. Designs were very similar to some heirloom jewelry pieces from our Grandmother’s era.
Jewelry designs like ChandBali, tiered / stepped jhumkas, Maang-Tika, Baaju-Band, nose-pin, Hair accessories are in vogue.
Young girls are wearing chunky oxidised silver jewelry with jeans and tops and are calling it bohemian look.
Same with clothes too…
Anaarkali suit (long, flowy top with a fitted bottom like a legging) is still ruling the Indian fashion scene. Apparently, this design dates back to Mughal era.
Sari is the quintessential Indian garment, which never goes out of fashion. One can drape in many different styles and look traditional or modern. It is one such highly customizable attire!
So, preserve those saris, clothing, and jewelry from your mothers’ and grandmothers’ treasure-chest. Those are / might be back in fashion. Even if not, those will be the heirlooms you might want to cherish. 😊👍
In the Western culture, there is a tradition to use something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and a sixpence in the shoe in the bride’s outfit for good luck as signs of continuity, optimism, happiness, purity and prosperity.
In Eastern / Asian culture too, wedding outfit / jewelry from previous generations are gifted to the bride as a sign of elders’ blessings and good luck.
Ultimately, fashion isn’t about just following the trend, but your attitude, feeling comfortable and confident in what you wear.

I believe that avoiding ready-made foods may be the first step to help lose weight. They might taste excellent, but processed foods include very little vitamins and minerals, making you try to eat more just to have enough energy to get over the day. If you’re constantly eating these foods, changing to grain and other complex carbohydrates will help you have more energy while feeding on less. Interesting blog post.
